by Steve Jennex Book Opening: Puerto Sorvino, Dominican Republic
The bartender watched her exit the water, a stunning blonde in a tiny, emerald green bikini that contrasted with her blue eyes. She was, by his estimation, no more than twenty-five or thirty at most, and whenever she made her way from the plastic lounger to the beach bar where he slung drinks, she turned heads along the way.
Her frequent visits to pick up liquid refreshment - her favorite, he learned, was the sugary Dominican Sunrise - were the highlight of the bartender's days. Watching her towel off by her chair in the hot midday sun, he once again briefly entertained thoughts of inviting her to his staff cabin on the resort. It was fun to think about, but he knew it wasn't in the cards. She was totally devoted to her boyfriend, who spent most of his days, it seemed, dozing in the sun beneath a massive, straw hat and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. The bartender could see that devotion in the way she lavished him with affection; pausing to lift his hat and kiss his head or stroke his arm with her fingertip, and how she looked at him, and hung on his every word. This girl was taken. |
