Our Most Dear Friend--Bhagavad-gita for Children;
Harmony--the Ecstatic Mystery of Bhagavad-gita
Sentence:
The Bhagavad-gita challenges popular theories to unabashedly
present sublime knowledge.
Blurb:
Through the concise verses of this book of life, a supreme,
sentient individual emerges from the backdrop of seemingly blind natural forces
to confront the idea of chance, to explain delusion, and to display
daringly authentic, unparalleled greatness.
Synopsis:
Arjuna, immobilized by confusion about his duty and purpose,
turns to Krishna for guidance. Krishna explains the underlying identity of every
living being, the yoga of work and of play, and the dharma of happiness. Intimacy and devotion, opulence and faith, discernment and detachment, truth and
beauty are the threads that form the exquisite tapestry of Krishna's words. Transformed by the Bhagavad-gita's potent spiritual and material message, Arjuna
freely follows his calling with deep understanding and joy. And as he did, so
can we.
Bio:
I have been studying, practicing, and teaching the principles of Bhagavad-gita for thirty-seven years. I have written and illustrated a
Bhagavad-gita for children, Our Most Dear Friend (Torchlight 1996, 2004), which
was published in several languages and reprinted in paperback. I have also
written and illustrated over a hundred magazine articles on the Gita and related
topics. I am professionally trained in photography; Amphoto published my first
book, Photomacrography: Art and Techniques, in 1970.
Endorsements:
Three scholars, Dr. Howard J. Resnick, Dr. Edwin Bryant,
and Dr. Graham Schweig, have reviewed and acclaimed my work. (Dr. Schweig's Bhagavad-gita, the Beloved Lord's Secret Love Song, was released in May 2007 by
HarperCollins.)
Additional:
Bhagavad-gita A Photographic Essay is a
visual guide to the world's greatest dialogue. By combining text and
black-and-white photographs, this book clarifies the sometimes complex concepts
of the Gita and makes it relevant and personal for today's reader. Of my
Essay Dr. Graham Schweig writes, "The ancient, yet universally relevant message
of the Gita is extended to us in the modern world through Vishaka's clearly
articulated understanding along with her powerful photographic expression of its
message." |
