In an isolated, off-the-grid community in a remote valley in Canada's British Columbia, a family seeking an alternative to urban living are nourished by the timeless yet timely wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita, through which they find happiness beyond their wildest expectations.

Synopsis:

Looking for an alternative to urban and suburban living, a family moves to an isolated, remote valley in British Columbia.  As they adjust to their new life, governed by the mores of the infinite wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita, they come to discover a serene joy and purpose to life that they never knew could exist.

Within themselves they challenge the disharmony that creates dissatisfaction, restlessness, and confusion, learning that our present-moment attitude makes a critical difference to our perceptions and reactions.

Environmentally, they find they are a tiny part of an incredibly complex and stunningly beautiful network of life that gently yet persistently asks for their awareness and appreciation.

And, in becoming part of an established community, they learn to interact deeply with all sorts of people. Real harmony, they discover, is a state of consciousness that can be successfully evoked anywhere.

Bio:

I have been studying, practicing and teaching the principles of Bhagavad-gita for thirty-seven years.  I have written and illustrated a Bhagavad-gita for children, Our Most Dear Friend (Torchlight 1996, 2004), which was published in several languages and reprinted in paperback.  I have also written and illustrated over a hundred magazine articles on the Gita and related topics.  I am professionally trained in photography; Amphoto published my first book, Photomacrography: Art and Techniques, in 1970.

Endorsements:
Three scholars, Dr. Howard J. Resnick, Dr. Edwin Bryant, and Dr. Graham Schweig, have reviewed and acclaimed my work.  (Dr. Schweig's Bhagavad-gita, the Beloved Lord's Secret Love Song, was released in May by HarperCollins.)

Film:
This story holds tremendous appeal for the filmmaker/dreamer.  The visuals are remarkable, and an immensely moving story could be woven around a family that relocates to the wilds of British Columbia to reawaken their souls.

Additional:
Harmony, the Ecstatic Mystery of Bhagavad-gita, is a contemplative memoir accompanied by lyrical, sepia-toned photographs taken in the beautiful valley in British Columbia where we live.  This book will appeal to readers who can appreciate the timeless quality of a life lived in simplicity, stewardship, and spirituality rather than in the never-ending pursuit of material goods.  Harmony explores a solid basis for personal, ecological, and social harmony and responsibility, interweaving the Bhagavad-gita's age-old wisdom with contemporary concerns.
