Synopsis: Chakko, War Chief of the Arivaipa Apaches,
leads his warriors in a killing spree across the vast Sonoran desert in 1872
Territorial Arizona in revenge for the recent massacre of his tribe. Chakko
ambushes a supply wagon train and kills everyone except Devlin, who escapes,
leaving Chakko unconscious in the dirt for his warriors to find. Chakko regains
consciousness and discovers that he has lost the trust of his warriors and thus
his status as war chief. Chakko realizes that he must find and kill the white
man who wounded him in order to regain the trust of his warriors. Devlin reaches
the safety of Camp Grant where he is hired as Scout for the 5th Cavalry.
Devlin meets the Colonel's daughter, Virginia Colesworthy,
and falls instantly in love. Captain Rickles, the Colonel's adjutant, becomes a
jealous and deadly enemy who wants the Colonel's daughter for his own. Captain Rickles plots to drive Devlin away from Camp Grant by first spreading lies about
him, then sending him on increasingly dangerous missions, and finally having him
beaten close to death. While Devlin's life becomes increasingly perilous inside
Camp Grant, Chakko lurks in the nearby hills watching and waiting. Chakko
kidnaps Virginia Colesworthy and takes her into the mountains hoping to draw
Devlin to him. Devlin races to rescue Virginia and tracks Chakko to a mountain
meadow where they have a climatic fight to the death. Although grievously
wounded, Devlin kills Chakko, rescues Virginia, and wins her love.

Film: It tells the story of the US Cavalry and the
little known tribe of Arivaipa Apaches in 1872 Territorial Arizona and the
Cavalry's struggle to first pacify then fight the Apaches. During this period
the citizens of Tucson, by attacking the pacified Arivaipa Village and killing
300 women, children and old men while all the warriors were away, caused the
Apaches to go back to war. |
