Logline:
Is it a chance meeting that plunges Harry Blackburn and Nikolai Kirilov back into "The Game"?  The two men spent their careers seperated by the Berlin Wall yet bound together by the betrayal of Viktor Morozov, a double agent both men used to their infinite regret. As the Cold War fades into memory, Morozov is once more front and center, and Harry and Nikolai can no longer ignore the consciences.  They must work together...but considering the secrets these men keep, can they trust one another?

Synopsis:
The first rule of the spy game is that the end justifies the means...the second rule is that the only "end" is to stay in the game.  The men who stay in the game the longest are the men who accept that the game demands sacrifices, and are willing to pay the price.

Harry Blackburn and Nikolai Kirilov lived by those rules in cold-war Berlin and thought they could live with the consequences of their actions after retirement.  However, when Viktor Morozov, the double agent who betrayed them both (and whom they both assumed was dead), re-surfaces in the soon-to-be reunified Germany, Harry and Nikolai are forced to reconsider how much the game has cost them as human beings.

They return to Berlin and meet, apparently by chance, in a crowded street.  Harry convinces Nikolai to help him expose Morozov and the intelligence agencies that are running him.  The two men are back in the game, and this time it’s personal.

However, they are also back in a world where nothing is ever as it appears to be, and the secret motivation of one of the retired agents may spell disaster for the other.

Bio:
John Newman was born in Scotland and moved to Canada at age 12; he now lives in Ottawa, where he graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor's Degree in English.

Getting a writing career off the ground in Canada is hard going, to say the least.  A teleplay John wrote entitled Really Grim Fairy Tales resulted in two offers to write for Canadian comedy shows....unfortunately both shows were cancelled shortly after.  Spied is John's third full-length screenplay.

Budget:

Medium to High.
