Synopsis:

The main protagonists, sisters Henna (the brainy one) and Gala (the emotional one), live in the northern territories of Terra Hexa: a world where the sun never goes down.  Henna and Gala have never known anything else, and life is arranged around the rising and sinking of the ever-present orb.  No one knows what lies beyond the eternal mists down south... the edge of the world, or something else...?

When the girls were small, their Uncle Ingo visited the family and told them the legend of how people came to Terra Hexa in "a great sailing ship" driven by "a captain made of gold."  Ingo ends the tale with the prophecy of the Gold Captain's future return and urges the girls to keep the legend secret, and "only tell it to your own children".

The legend inspires the older sister, Henna, to go to the university to become a scientist...

Many years later, teenager Henna is a star student at the University of Northtown, while Gala trains to become a pony-express mailwoman at the local Riding Academy.

Uncle Ingo returns from a long absence and visits them. At a public university lecture, Ingo reveals the findings of his last, hazard-filled expedition to the uncharted Southern Territories.  He plans to form a new expedition to go beyond the "edge of the world" (many people believe Terra Hexa is a flat disc) and find the world beyond the Eternal Mists.

Defying Ingo's misgivings and warnings, Henna and Gala join the expedition, followed by their fellow students Mick and Ryder.  Mick is a cynical, free-spirited musician, secretly in love with Henna.  Ryder is a serious-minded, shy rider apprentice, fond of outdoor life.

The long, arduous trek takes Ingo, Henna, Gala, Ryder, and Mick across miles and miles of changing wilderness.  After many adventures, they reach the bizarre zone of the Eternal Mists... where the landscape itself seems to want to stop them from going any farther south.  But Henna presses on, risking her life in the process, and breaks through the Eternal Mists.

She discovers the truth of Terra Hexa, as they venture beyond the horizon.  There they experience many new adventures...

Additional:
Terra Hexa was written at a request from my older sister's two daughters, who wanted me to write a book THEY would like to read. Their only demand was that the story must contain horses. They were pleased with the result and are eagerly waiting to see "their" book published.
