Who's a Hack?

If you've ever been called a hack writer--and couldn't believe your ears--now's your chance to find out for sure (sort of).  Am I a HACK or NOT? is a new Website offering writers an opportunity to submit their best writing for rating by readers.  Hapless hacks receive a rating of "1," while the best wordsmiths in the land rank a lofty "10."  The site is an offshoot of the super-successful hotornot.com, which lets users see pictures of others and rate their, uhh, hotness. Web developer  Jason J. Jones is behind both sites.  He admits that  "hotornot.com was a guilty pleasure of mine.  I loved the concept, and I decided to apply it to a whole different subject matter."  Uh-huh.

A New Wrinkle

Author Robert Grudin has joined forces with publisher Knowhere Press and artist Grace Ku to form White Wolf, LLC, a collaborative, venture-based publishing model.  Grudin has assigned the rights of The Most Amazing Thing, his second novel, to White Wolf in exchange for a majority ownership in the company. The Most Amazing Thing, Robert Grudin's sixth book, arrives in stores this December.  His previous novel, Book, received a Pulitzer nomination from Random House and made the New York Times list of 100 Notable Books of the Year for 1992.

Free Content for Publications

The Society for Women's Health Research recently announced that it will launch the Women's Health Research Syndicate in order to make available medical-related content to various publications free of charge.  The editorial content includes articles on a wide variety of topics relating to women.  The subject matter ranges from the latest advances in the treatment of breast cancer and the role estrogen plays in cognitive functioning to discoveries in Parkinson's disease and the differences between men and women in skin cancer.

Canuks Go Digital

Canada's most prestigious daily, The Globe and Mail, a newspaper with a national readership, announced that a digital version of the complete daily print newspaper is now available for download via NewsStand's digital distribution service. Information on subscriptions can be obtained http://www.globeandmail.com/subscriptions.   Unlike the digital versions of many other newspapers, The Globe and Mail offers its digital version as a complete replica of its print edition, right down to the advertisements, photographs, and complete articles.
