Mr. President,

Don't Tell Me!

by Don Bacue

Some weeks ago, the president of the United States told me that, if I built a successful business, I didn't do it alone.  I had help from the government.

In fact, he said, I couldn't have done it myself because I wasn't any smarter or any more ambitious than any other American.  Later, of course, he tried to walk that ridiculous comment back with some nonsensical doubletalk, as he always does after revealing his true feelings toward America's private sector.  He overlooks time and again one simple fact: his words are there, on tape, for anyone who wants to know the truth about what he said.

Naturally, I take extreme umbrage at the president's comment.  During the course of my lifetime, I have single-handedly and without government help or intervention (and despite nearly overwhelming government roadblocks) created several hundred jobs for several hundred people who wouldn't have enjoyed full employment and a weekly pay check otherwise.  Mr. President has created none.

He criticizes "rich" business owners for not paying their "fair share" of taxes.  Yet, hundreds of the people I have hired send their "fair share" of tax money to Washington each and every day because of the jobs I created for them.  Mr. President has created none.

He criticizes Mitt Romney for destroying people's lives and overlooks the fact that Bane Capital lost several hundred times fewer jobs than it saved or created.  Mr. President has created none.

In fact, Mr. President has not created a single job or earned a private-sector dollar in his life.  Every job he has held has been government-subsidized or -created.  Don't forget, you are the federal government.  Without you, there would be no Washington, D. C.  That means that you paid for the president's education.  You put the clothes on his back.  You paved the way for his entry into politics.  In fact, you hired Barack Obama to be president of the United States four years ago.  And you have been paying his salary each and every day (including tens of millions of dollars a year for his recreating with his golf buddies and his family) ever since.

But now he thinks you should pay even more.  To help poor illegal immigrants find a new home.  To help them get a driver's license and a college education.  To help the jobless remain jobless for the rest of their lives.  To help every American everywhere have unlimited "free" access to condoms and medical services and educational loans and food.

Except that it's not "free."  Not by a long shot.

What people forget, and what Mr. President never bothers to tell them, is that the federal government doesn't earn a single nickel.  It survives on the benevolence of hard-working, tax-paying private-sector Americans such as you and me.  And our taxes keep going up, despite Mr. President's lies to the contrary.  Income taxes, property taxes, unemployment taxes, tobacco taxes, state taxes, highway taxes, fuel taxes, public land use taxes, professional licensee taxes, sales taxes, communications taxes, utilities taxes.  And Mr. President gets a cut of each and every one.

He can lie, but he can't hide.

Four more years?  Not for this job creator, thank you.  I think I prefer an America where socialism takes a back seat to the private sector.  Strong socialized government has never worked in the history of civilization.  But a free economy has.  And does.

And will.
